School District Begins Open
Enrollment Period for 2015-2016 School Year

The Student Assignment Open Enrollment Period for the 2015-2016 school year began today and will run through Friday, March 27, 2015. The Open Enrollment Period is for:

  • Any student entering Kindergarten, 6th or 9th Grade
  • Students who are new to the District

In addition, students currently enrolled in a school may participate if they want to change schools next year.

On Thursday, January 15, pre-printed applications were mailed to parents of Pre-K students attending Lee County Public Schools who are eligible for kindergarten for 2015-2016, as well as current fifth- and eighth-grade students who currently attend a Lee County Public School.

Parents of children who will be five on or before September 1st should apply for kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year. Parents need to register their child even if they have an older child already in school – assignments are not automatic.

Student assignment utilizes a lottery system. A family who registers the first day of Open Enrollment has the same chance of getting a school as that of a family who registers the last day – it is unnecessary for families to stand in long lines when Open Enrollment starts. In fact, families are encouraged to continue to attend open houses and tour schools before completing their final school choice rankings.

In addition, if families received a pre-printed application, they are strongly encouraged to apply online via the District’s Web site (http://studentassignment.leeschools.net). This option is not available to new students to the District or students currently attending a charter school.

The District has also unveiled a new “Find My School” tool for parents this year. Parents are encouraged to visit http://lcsd1.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Solutions/s2.html?appid=bbd56395859340d5ad8170ff5cc7661a to map their address and find schools that are available in their subzone.

Parents and students may also visit schools during open house. Parents may visit the District’s Web site (http://www.leeschools.net/calendar/districtwide.asp) or call the school to find out the open house date and time.

Parents may come to any of the following Student Assignment locations between the hours of 9 am – 4 pm to register children for school:

  • Lehigh Acres Office, 1262 Wings Way Suite #207, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936
    (Located on Beth Stacey Blvd off of Homestead Rd. in the Community Health Association Complex.)
  • Cape Coral Office, 370 Santa Barbara Blvd. North, Cape Coral FL, 33993
    (Located in the Lee County High Tech Center North, off of Pine Island Road, just north of Roger Dean Chevrolet.)
  • Fort Myers Office, 2855 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33966
    (Located at the corner of Colonial Blvd and Metro Pkwy behind McDonalds.)
