Lehigh Senior High School (LSHS) has selected a familiar face from the Lee County community to serve as its next head football coach. James Chaney, a North Fort Myers High School graduate, will take over the reins of the LSHS program; ushering in a new era of Lightning football.
After graduating from North Fort Myers High School, Coach Chaney attended Florida State University, where he earned his degree in Criminology and played on the defensive line for the Seminoles under Coach Bobby Bowden. Coach Chaney has been very involved in the community in youth and high school sports for the past 9 years.
Of welcoming Coach Chaney to the Lightning program, Principal Jackie Corey shared, “We had over 75 applicants (and) scheduled 16 interviews. We interviewed applicants from California, Ohio, Louisiana, the NFL and Lee County. After searching and interviewing for over a month, we found the best candidate in our own backyard. James Chaney has deep roots in the community and is very well respected. We feel he will be a positive mentor and has the leadership ability to take our program in the right direction. We are excited about him joining the Lehigh family as a teacher and coach.”
