Politics can be a heated subject for some, and this seems to be true here in Lehigh Acres. This morning Nov. 4 firefighters supporting the new fire tax filed a false report with the Lee County Sheriff Offices claiming that a knife was pulled on one of them at Christ United Methodist Church polling location, by a Lehigh Acres Taxpayer who was placing “No New Taxes” signs.
We spoke with the Lehigh Acres Taxpayer in question, who stated that “I was more than 20 ft placing a sign and used my pocket knife to loosen the soil to place the sign. My back was facing the firefighter who made this false claim. And I place the knife back in my pocket before I even got up to walk back to the car I was a passenger in.”
The Lehigh Acres Taxpayer continued by stated “I find it appalling that they are so scared of Freedom of Speech and a person’s right to disagree with them that they would do such a thing”
The Lehigh Acres Gazette as spoke with Capt. Garrison at the Lehigh Acres Substation, who said that no charges will be filed against the Lehigh Acres Taxpayer, and that the Taxpayer was in his rights to place the sign at the polling booth.
We tried to speak with the Lehigh Acres Firefighter Josh Girda that filed the false police report and he refused, as did Fire Chief Wayne. Sources within the Lehigh Acres Fire Department did say that it was clear to them that the filing of this report with the Sheriff Office was just a stunt to get the news media to cover the fire assessment here in Lehigh Acres and was a personnel attack on this taxpayer and the anti-fire assessment movement.
Lehigh Acres Gazette will continue to follow this story in the days to come.
No big surprise.I’m going to opt out of the fire service, house is going to burn down anyway.Maybe we need to get a recount
