Local Home owners and voters in Lehigh Acres have filed complaints with Pam Bondi, Florida’s Attorney General against the Political body known as The Lehigh Acres Fire Department; the complaints charge the Department with deceptive, misleading and distorting the facts on their website, flyers and signage.
J. B. said the most disturbing item is the threat on the flyer, billboard and website; “WHAT’S YOUR LIFE WORTH?” It’s like having a gun stuck by my head, vote yes, I live, vote no and one of my family members will die, she said. This is extortion, she concluded.
G.S. said when I received the flyer the other day; I was appalled of the misleading untruths in the flyer. Even the ballot question in the flyer is wrong when it says “This is exact wording you will see on your ballot when you vote on November 4th”. I called the local election in Ft Myers and according to Sharon Harrington it’s not the same. So who is pulling wool over the people’s eyes …. the fire board.
B.S. said I’m so disappointed in the Fire Board, they choose to use taxpayer money against its own citizens and voters.
Frank Lohlein President of Citizens Against Increased Taxes (aka C.A.I.T.) said in a recent interview, that our voting block of 6000 people in Lehigh Acres will be voting no on the fire assessment.
According to Lohlein this tax assessment will destroy the town by raising taxes on family’s that are struggling to make it day by day. But Lohlein went further – “it will also do great harm to seniors on a fixed income, figuring out how to buy food or medications”.
Through Lohlein said he’s pro union, he stated that he’s very disappointed in the fire union.
“Our shopping center polls shows that this so-called assessment can be defeated easily”, Lohlein said.
I completely agree with Frank L. ………vote no.

How disappointing to see the way the ballot question is asked/phrased? Towards the end of the ballot question is where the “smart folks” choose to place that “residents pay $292″. After all the residents are the ones who have to cast a ballot and the first thing that should be on the ballot is the $292 (not the commercial fees/vacant property} so voters can readily see what they will be assessed
Hello
Had to test first. I am confused with this… I understand that some of the wording could be construed as pushy. But isn’t everybody lying to me… I will not be paying a additional 292 dollars. I will be paying the difference from what I paid last year to what I will have to pay this year (I think). Also I know what happens when you lose half the crew (former steel worker) So when they say they will be taking sometimes twice as long to get to you… They really mean it.. 14 minutes to get to your house, may as well kiss it goodbye. Did anybody talk about what will happen to your insurance coverage when this happens. They tell me I am lucky to be paying a little over 3000 per year. I have seen grease fires in a few minutes wipe out a mill. What do you think would happen to wood? I am still looking into this but as of now I will be voting yes so I keep my homeowners insurance. PS I lost my steel pension with a little less than 30 years in, so working for the school district does not make me rich.
