A Lee County judge sentence Ronnie Sheppard Jr. on Monday to ten years in prison for shooting a family’s dog and burglary of two homes in Lehigh Acres, as reported nbc2.com.
Sheppard and an accomplice, both from Fort Meyers, began their crime spree in November when they tried to break into a home, but the owners were home, and the men fled. They stole a car and later crashed it. At the second home, neighbors heard gunshot sounds and witnessed the men running away with a television.
When deputies arrived at the burglarized home on Manuel Street, they found the family dog shot and killed.
According to nbc2.com, the owners of the dog named Carley, made an emotional statement to the judge before Sheppard’s sentencing.
Christian Aranda, 18, arrested in connection with this crime, is still in custody.
Sheppard has been in trouble with the law since age 12.
Rest in peace Carley.
