A tip to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers led to a major marijuana bust Wednesday in Buckingham.
Detectives found a barn filled with nearly 100 pounds of marijuana in the 6400 block of Pangola Road.
Detectives arrested Todd and Brenda Nelson, both 49. When detectives arrived they told the couple that they had received a complaint that marijuana was being grown in the barn and asked if that was the case. At that point, Todd became irate and refused to consent to a search of the bar.
Detectives could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Nelson’s clothing and also observed what appeared to be marijuana on his shirt. Brenda was asked to get her two children from the house and have them remain by the gate while a search warrant was obtained.
Inside the house, detectives located packages of vacuum sealed marijuana along with numerous prescription pills including Hydrocodone and Xanax.
Todd Nelson was charged with trafficking and producing marijuana. Brenda Nelson was charged with possession of marijuana.
The investigation is ongoing at this time. The Department of Children and Families (DCF) has been contacted regarding the juveniles being present at this location.
