Two Arrests Connected
to Sunday’s Shooting

Lee County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men they said are involved in Sunday’s shooting. In custody are Thayer Evans, Jr. and Lonnie Young, Junior who are both from Fort Myers.

They face aggravated battery and weapons charges. Two handguns were recovered at the time of the arrest.

Deputies were dispatched to the 2700 block of Gilbert Avenue about 6:30 Sunday morning. A large investigation was established that included ground and air support.

The resident said he was awakened by a loud knocking at his front door. He went to answer it according to the arrest records, when he heard the rear glass sliding door break.

Several shots were fired, one hitting the victim in his abdomen and his hand. The victim ran to his bedroom and called 911. He was then taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. He is listed in good condition.

Detectives were unable to pick up the trail until a witness came forward and directed investigators to a trail to a home on Haviland Avenue South. It was there detectives found handguns stashed in a garage. After interviewing those in this home, Young and Evans were charged with Sunday’s shooting.

Young and Evans are being held without bond and will be in court August 4th.
