• What’s Happening: Lee County Parks & Recreation, along with Kohl’s Cares and Golisano Children’s Hospital, invites everyone to come play at the Safe Pool Party at the Lehigh Acres Community Pool. Learn ways to help your family stay safe while having fun in, on and around the water.
• Where: Lehigh Acres Community Pool, 1400 West 5th Street, Lehigh Acres
• When: The Safe Pool Party is 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday. Regular pool hours are Tuesday from 10 a.m.-4:15 p.m., Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4:15 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
• Cost: The Safe Pool Party is free. Regular daily admission prices are: $3 for adults (18+), $2 for Seniors (55+), and $2 for children (under 18). Six-month and One-year passes are also available for the family or individual. Check out leeparks.org for more information on our pool passes.
• What to expect: The Lehigh Acres Community Pool is an eight-lane, heated pool with a triple flume slide that is open year-round. The Safe Pool Party will include pool games, free hot dogs, water safety activities and demonstrations. Certified lifeguards are on duty at all times. Lap lanes are provided for the lap swimmer and water exercise and Arthritis Foundation classes are offered throughout the year on weekdays. Learn to Swim classes are offered throughout the year for all ages and abilities. The Learn to Swim instructor staff are certified through the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Program. The pool is home to Swim Florida, which is a competitive youth swim team. For more information about the Swim Florida program, call 357-0855 or visit the website at swimflorida.com. Other area pools that are open year-round include San Carlos, North Fort Myers and Pine Island.
• History: The Lehigh Acres Community Pool opened in November 1986. A year later, a heating system was added to keep water temperatures constant. In 2004, a renovation project included resurfacing the interior of the pool with a new aggregate finish. The project also included a new pool deck, facility fencing and upgrading the filtration system. In late 2007 and early 2008, a capital improvement project included renovation of the restrooms, the addition of indoor showers, and new non-skid flooring. A triple flume water slide was installed in 2010 for added fun. In spring 2012, a cooling system was added and heat pumps were replaced in the fall to keep water temperature constant throughout the year.
