A musician, pastor, harp builder, and more, Steve Barnett shared with the Lehigh Acres Gazette about his latest harp project. Barnett, out of Lehigh Acres, is not a stranger when it comes to building and playing harps.
“I just finished building my eighth harp!”, said Barnett
Barnett, also a professional film, TV and voiceover actor, finds time to build harps. There are many kinds of harps, and this one, built by Barnett, is a Paraguayan.
“This latest harp I’ve built is a Paraguayan ‘styled’ arpa (meaning harp). I say ‘styled’ harp, as it is just a bit larger and heavier than a typical Paraguayan harp. They are supposed to weigh only 10 to 14 pounds. Mine turned out to weigh an even 20 pounds.”
According to Barnett there are only three strings used, at this point, to hold the harp together. Strings and tuners are the next part of the project.
Barnett sees his harp project being fully completed by this Christmas, but he is proud of the results so far and considers it finished. When the harp is made available for playing, that will be the true test!
“Yes, I not only build harps, I also play them!” , said Barnett
This talented entertainer has played and performed on many harps at several events throughout Southwest Fla. In addition, Steve Barnett is also a realtor, a character actor, a member of UFTA and has been recently cast in the film “Casting.”
