The Lehigh Acres Lodge 344 Free & Accepted Masons hosted the annual Christmas party for the Candlelighters on Sunday, December 1st. The Candlelighters is a 501(C)3 charitable organization whose mission is to provide support, education and assistance to families of children with cancer or blood disorders.
The Masons have been involved with the Candlelighters for the past 8 years, helping to bring a little fun and enjoyment into the lives of local children that otherwise have to deal with these detrimental health problems.
There were approximately 120 people in attendance, including the children and their families. Klair Snellbaker, the Founder and Executive Director of the Candlelighters of Southwest Florida, was present. A number of Masons, Shriners, and their families all participated to make this event possible.
A Shriner clown made animal balloons for the kids. A member of the American Legion led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States. Even the Grinch showed up to pose for pictures with some of the guests.
Bill Horacio, a local Mason and Shriner, visited multiple Masonic and Shrine lodges over the past number of weeks to raise money for the event. Thanks to the donations, 38 children received a $40 Wal-Mart gift certificate.
The American Legion donated coloring books.
After a great spaghetti dinner, the children were able to eat candy from a gingerbread house.
Fred Wright, a member of Fort Myers Beach Lodge 362, was able to convince Santa Clause to make a special appearance.
