The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is very pleased to announce the results of our Classroom Grants application process. Of the 93 applications received, we were able to award classroom grants to fund 60 projects, for a total of over $54,000.
Classroom Grants are awarded to teachers and schools, allowing them to purchase the tools necessary to create distinctive learning experiences for students. The grant-funded projects offer students hands-on activities and a unique perspective on traditional subject areas. Since its inception, The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools has awarded well over $1,000,000 to fund these innovative projects. Focus areas include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math); Health, Fitness and Nutrition; the Arts; and Literacy.
For the 2013-2014 school year, ten projects were funded in the Arts category; eight projects were funded in the Health, Fitness and Nutrition category; 24 projects were funded in the Literacy category; and 18 projects were funded in the STEM category.
“The Classroom Grants program is an awesome example of how leveraging funds from the private and public sector can have a positive impact on providing unique learning experiences for our students,” said Foundation President and CEO, Marshall Bower. “We require our teachers to demonstrate how these grant activities will contribute to student achievement.”
