A Lehigh Acres woman is facing a charge of making a false police report after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said she lied about being abducted at gunpoint.
Deputies said Ashley Bernice Ortiz Del Valle, reported Wednesday she was heading to a Bank of America branch in the area of Gateway Boulevard when she was abducted by a man and woman at gunpoint, forced to swallow unknown pills and made to leave the area in her car.
According to the report the incident occurred after she left work around1:20 a.m.
She said she was at a stop sign near Gateway Boulevard when the two suspects, wearing beanies to cover their faces, got into her car and attempted to rob her.
Ortiz Del Valle told investigators she was able escape after she used pepper spray on the her captors, according to a sheriff’s office report.
She initially said the two suspects tried to rob her of her jewelry, and the woman punched her in the face twice as she tried to escape the vehicle.
Investigators said they found several inconsistencies with Ortiz Del Valle’s story, and she later admitted to fabricating the incident and staging the crime scene.
Investigators also said she gave herself a self-inflicted bruise to the right eye.
She said she initially told her husband the story not thinking he would contact law enforcement, and she became panicked after he did about his reaction if she admitted to making up the story, according to the report.
