A vehicle crash involving a pickup truck towing a construction trailer and a Jeep occurred on Joel Boulevard.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Joel Boulevard and 12th Street.
An eye witness says a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by an Edison College paramedic student who was coming off a 24-hour shift training on busy Lee County EMS Medic 18, apparently fell asleep while driving northbound on Joel Boulevard approaching East 12th Street and slammed into the rear of a construction trailer being towed by a pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup stated that the impact of the crash sent him into the path of an oncoming southbound tractor trailer, but he was able to steer the truck and trailer, which was now towing the Jeep as well, back into his own lane, finally coming to rest approximately 300 feet from where the crash happened.
The driver of the Cherokee was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the driver of the pickup was uninjured.
