A 16-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the leg Sunday when a group of juveniles began shooting off guns during a party.
Lee County deputies were called to the 4900 block of Barth Street at 2:12 a.m. Sunday, according to a sheriff’s office report. Deputies found a 16-year-old male lying on the sidewalk, bleeding from the lower left leg.
The victim told deputies he was at a party with a large group of juveniles on Barth Street, when everyone went outside behind the house because they thought the party was ending. Several males who attended the party began shooting their guns off into the air and ground.
The victim’s friend was attempting to remove what appeared to be a .40 caliber Glock handgun from his pocket, when the gun accidently went off and a bullet struck the victim.
The victim was adamant that the shooting was an accident, according to the report.
Deputies found a .40 caliber shell casing and a blood trail behind the home where the party was held.
