The School District of Lee County has received notice from the Florida Department of Education that of the 50,000 students tested in the District this year, 438 students (339 District students and 99 Charter students) have received a perfect score on an FCAT 2.0 subject area test or End of Course (EOC) exam.
Personalized certificates with the student’s name and Governor Rick Scott’s signature are being forwarded to schools this week.
Students achieving a level 3 or above on an FCAT 2.0 subject area test or End of Course exam can also expect to receive a congratulatory letter from Governor Scott. The FCAT 2.0 included subject tests in Reading, Math, Science, and Writing; while the End of Course exams covered Geometry, Biology, Algebra and U.S. History.
Though the District has not received a breakdown of perfect scores by subject area, District officials opened just a few sealed certificates in order to provide for student comment:
Christopher Valentine, an 8th grader at Lehigh Acres Middle School, earned a perfect score in two subjects – Science and Writing.
The state average for students scoring at level 3-5 for Science is 47% and Writing is 54%.
Tyler Millis of Dunbar High School achieved a perfect score on the Geometry End of Course exam. Only 64% of students statewide scored a level 3-5 and this was the first year the state attached achievement levels to this test.
Overall, Lee County students in grades 3-10 performed primarily at or above the state level in FCAT 2.0 Reading, Math, Science and Writing.
A breakdown of perfect scores by school is listed below, as well as parent information for students that may wish to comment on their perfect score.
