The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a minivan and a semi-truck Wednesday morning that shutdown State Road 82 near Griffin Drive for more than two hours.
Ayeesha Hassad, 50, was driving west on SR 82 near Griffin Drive when she slowed and attempted to make a U turn into the eastbound lane. Hassad turned into the path of a big rig driven by Ivan Fonte Banos, 37, of Lehigh Acres.
The FHP says Banos tried to take evasive action by attempting to pass Hassad’s car but ended up striking the front driver’s side of her vehicle.
Hassad was critically injured and air lifted to Lee Memorial Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
