Jeremiah Edward Mayo

Lee County Sheriff deputies arrested Jeremiah Edward Mayo Wednesday after they say he threatened two NBC-2 employees with a gun.

Mayo, 23, was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, according the report from the Lee County Sheriff’s office.

A NBC-2 reporter and a videographer were in the 1000 block of Fayette Avenue to cover a story about pit bulls stolen from a home during a burglary. The intended subjects of the story were not home, so the staff waited outside in their vehicle for someone to return to the residence.

The NBC-2 employees told deputies they saw two cars that appeared to be going to the residence. A male passenger in one of the cars stared at the reporters in a threatening manner, according to the sheriff’s office report. One of the one NBC-2 employees smiled and waved at the man.

The vehicle stopped and the man, later identified as Mayo, jumped out, pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the reporter.

The NBC-2 employees attempted to back their vehicle out of the driveway, but Mayo continued to approach with the gun pointed at them.

The reporter pointed at their press pass and told him they were with the news.
“I don’t care,” Mayo said, according to the report. “Get the (expletive) out of here, no one’s talking, leave.”

Report said that Mayo said he approached the reporters with the gun at his side, but did not point it at them, according to the report.
