For the past few weeks, Floridians have voted for their favorite new license plate design. Tuesday, the state announced a winner.
The voting was pretty close. The winner received more than 15,000 votes.
The new plate will feature a new design – but you can still pick from two different phrases at the bottom.
“In the design, we have ‘Sunshine State’ at the bottom and we’re also going to propose that ‘In God We Trust,’ the state motto, is also allowed on plates. One of the proposals was to take the county designations off because that’s a lot of inventory management and it would save money to just have those two versions of plates. So people will be able to get either phrase on the bottom of their plate,” explained Kirsten Olsen-Doolam, with the Florida Department of Highway Safety.
Now the design goes to Governor Rick Scott and the Florida cabinet for approval.
If they pass it, the new plate will start going on Florida’s 18 million vehicles starting in 2014.
