According to Tampa Bay Times reports officials say the change would save money, because a more visible design would help identify drivers who don’t pay tolls.
One in six digital images is declared unreadable at Florida Turnpike toll booths.
“A lot of cameras have difficulty reading the difference between S, 8, B, Y,” said Julie Jones, Director of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
If approved by the legislature, the new license plate would be phased in over a two year period beginning January of 2014.
