Fire Board Race Goes Into Automatic Recount

And the recount began today at 5 p.m., according to Sharon Harrington, Lee County supervisor of elections, they begin an automatic machine recount in the race for Seat 3 on the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District,

Incumbent Larry Becker won the race with 31.43 percent of the vote to Ronald Krome’s 31.04 percent.

By state law, a recount is done when the difference in tallied votes is less than one half of 1 percent. An automatic hand recount is done when the difference is under a quarter of a percent.

Harrington said hopes to know the results by midnight. They will recount 15 precincts or approximately 13,000 ballots from the polling sites, she said. She wasn’t sure about the number of absentee ballots.

The candidate with the lower percentage has the option to say no to the recount but she said Krome encouraged them to proceed.
