Lee County Commissioners agreed to fund new improvements to Homestead Rood.
During a heated battle between Commissioner Bigelow and Chairman Manning, Commissioner Frank Mann got it done for Lehigh Acres.
The following projects were approved for fiscal year 2012-2013:
- $556,800 for the Lehigh Acres Activity Center
- $750,000 for a Roundabout at Beth Stacey Boulevard and Business Way Loop
- Landscaping of one mile of Homestead Road from Beth Stacey Boulevard to Adams Avenue
- The engineering phase for the Homestead Road Complete Street Project.
All of the projects were a combined lobbying effort from many different groups in Lehigh Acres including The Community Council, The One Voice and all the citizens that attended and participated in the many community meetings held in the past five years discussing and promoting these area projects.
The roundabout at Beth Stacey and Business Way is a totally stupid idea. There is very little congestion at that intersection. Its a waste of money and will only cause accidents.
I’m just back from France where roundabouts are everywhere. They are an excellent solution for intersections with 4-way- stops of traffic-lights with multiple intersecting streets. And one day we Americans will lern to use it correctly (no turn signal going into it, right turn signal before leaving it).
However, Beth Stacy and Businees Way is an ordinary intersection and works just fine. I wonder which group was lobbying $750,000 for such a project. Unbelievable!
