Election Coverage
In A Nutshell

Sen. Bill Nelson and Rep. Connie Mack to meet Nov. 6; Trey Radel wins congressional primary.

Sheriff Mike Scott rolled to a primary victory against challenger Tim Fisher in his quest for a third four-year term.

Scott rode a wave of popularity to nab 73 percent of the vote. Scott’s victory, while a landslide, was less than the 90 percent he received in the 2008 primary.

Scott will face Lee Bushong, a no-party affiliation candidate, and write-in candidate Christian Meister in the Nov. 6 general election.

In her first try for elected office, Linda Doggett, chief operating officer of the Lee County Clerk of Court office, won Tuesday against Lee County Commissioner Brian Bigelow in the Republican primary for Clerk of Court.

Doggert will face a write-in candidate on the November general election ballot.

Experience bested the aspirations of a political newcomer Tuesday as Lee County Tax Collector Larry Hart defeated challenger Kyle Lee by a large margin and won the right to contest for his office in November.

Jeanne Dozier and Bob Chilmonik will face off again in November after both failed to secure the majority of votes during Tuesday’s District 2 Lee County school board race.

In District 3, Cathleen Morgan won against Les Cochran for outgoing board member Jane Kuckel’s seat.
