Lehigh Acres new STEM schools
Tortuga Preserve is one of Lehigh Acres’ new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) schools opening in August.
School administrators, teachers and families celebrated the opening of the new ‘STEM’ school Saturday.
Principal Alane Adams said it’s designed to give children a competitive edge.
“We do not know in… 13 years what jobs are going to look like and what jobs are going to be out there. They’re going to change, they don’t even exist yet, and STEM allows students to have the capability of being critical thinkers and be prepared for those jobs that don’t exist yet,” Adams said.
During the open house Saturday, families toured the science labs, classrooms, and met teachers. Although construction is done, there are still minor things to do before the school year begins.
“You know there’s little fine tunings just like when you move into a new house there’s things that need to be tweaked but we are ready for students on August 8th,” Adams said.
