Detectives Honored By
Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber

During the General Luncheon meeting  of the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber, Lt. James Loethen, assistant commander at the Bravo Station in Lehigh Acres presented the Officer of the Month awards on behalf of the Chamber and of Capt. Ronald J. Curtis, the Bravo District Station commander, who nominated the two detectives for the honor.

Honored were Detectives Holly Snyder of Bravo District and Ryan Hakenson of the Child Abuse Unit.

In early April, investigators with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office learned that there was an illegal juvenile “Fight Club” that was active and growing in the Lehigh Acres area. The case was assigned to Detectives Snyder and Hakenson.

“The investigation progressed very quickly and one day after this dangerous club was brought to our attention, it resulted in the arrest of three residents who were accused of promoting and organizing the club through Facebook and word of mouth.

Loethen told the members and the guests at the Chamber luncheon that all three were charged with one count of prohibited competitions – the statute defines any person holding, promoting, or sponsoring a match such as boxing (which is defined as repeated blows to the head, commits a felony of the third degree.)

Loethen said that through their complete investigation, they terminated this dangerous activity of fighting very quickly before anyone could be killed as a result.
