A ‘supermoon’ lights up the skies of Lehigh Acres, reaching its peak size at around 11:34 pm.

The scientific term for a supermoon is a perigee moon. It is a period of time when the moon is closest to the Earth due to the elliptical path of the Moon’s orbit.  Full moons that appear during a perigee normally appear bigger and brighter.
During this perigee supermoon tonight, the moon is approximately 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter, but many people may not be able to tell a difference.
