Update: 11:43 p.m.
A simple traffic stop intensified into a deputy-involved shooting in Lee County. Officials with the sheriff’s office say that deputy sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators say that shooting happened near the intersection of Cemetery Road and Stratton Road in Buckingham.
The call originally came into the sheriff’s office at 7:19 p.m. Wednesday for a traffic stop. But officials we spoke with say that stop quickly turned into a pursuit, which ended on Cemetery Road.
Crews on scene say after the chase there was a struggle, shots were fired and a suspect got away.
Deputies say they are now searching for a black male wearing a black T-shirt. K-9 units and a sheriff’s office helicopter are aiding in that search.
8:33 p.m. Lee County deputies are on scene of a shooting on Cemetery Road and Laurelwood Avenue.
A deputy has been shot, but is not seriously hurt, according to the sheriff’s office. Several suspects are in custody, and deputies are searching for another.
A perimeter has been established in the area of Cemetery and Stratton roads. An aviation unit is currently circling the area.
