Commissioner Brian Bigelow resigned his Lee County commission seat Thursday – well, at least he tried to resign.
A technical error on his letter to Elections Supervisor Sharon Harrington means it’s not official yet, though Harrington said she was still accepting the resignation.
Bigelow has filed to run for Clerk of Courts since current clerk Charlie Green is retiring. He has until the end of the qualifying period for that job to correct his letter – that’s noon on June 8, 2012.
The error on the letter is in the date Bigelow will resign. The letter cites state statute on the date, but Harrington said it needs to include an actual date, not just recite state law.
Two people have already filed to run for Bigelow’s District 2 seat: Former police union chief Cecil Pendergrass and former Fort Myers councilman and news anchor Warren Wright.

Lee County Commissioner Brian Bigelow submitted a letter of resignation today; in an indication he would run to become the County’s Clerk of Court.
Bigelow will step down from the commission when he assumes another post or a successor replaces him, according to a state law he cited in his resignation letter.
Throughout the year, Bigelow has hinted he may run to replace Clerk of Court Charlie Green, who has decided against running for re-election after a more than two decade stint. Bigelow, however, makes no mention of plans to run for Clerk of Court in his resignation.
