Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts teachers, Caren Pearson and Helen Sadler, were recently presenters at the National Writing Project Conference at Florida Gulf Coast University. The conference, “NWP’s Greatest Hits,” was a day of workshops approaching writing from different perspectives. Over 18 presenters offered an array of hands-on experiences and innovative techniques to encourage student writing. Mrs. Pearson explored the connections between visual and verbal communication in “Image Making: Art and Writing.” Through creative, expressive art making, writers engaged these images and their sense memories as a prompt to write. Ms. Sadler helped attendees to connect with their writing spirit in “Writing Space.” She tied into attendees’ quiet inner selves for stimulation and inspiration.
