The list of great student-athletes that have roamed the halls, playing fields and gymnasiums of Lee County’s public schools is long and distinguished. So, too, is the list of District staff members who made significant contributions to our schools and athletic departments. For years, the idea of creating something to these individuals for their efforts had been batted around.

Well, last year the decision was finally agreed upon – the 13 high school athletic directors agreed that a Lee County Athletic Conference Hall of Fame be established. But it was also agreed that it wouldn’t only apply to student-athletes; it would also include those District staff members who made outstanding contributions to their school and students.

“It’s important, as educators and business leaders, to highlight the positives and successes of participants and graduates of Lee County Public Schools,” said Herman Williams, the County Athletic Director. “The Lee County Athletic Conference Hall of Fame is one way to do this. It’s important to remember the accomplishments that our staff members and our graduates have achieved and shine the spotlight on those who deserve acknowledgement.”

So, this coming August, the District will induct 36 athletes and supports as the inaugural class. Being the first class, each high school selected one inductee for every 10 years the school has been open. Schools were left to decide, based on certain criteria, who they would select to represent them. Future classes will be chosen by a selection committee, which will elect five athletes and two supporters each year.

The cost to attend is $150 per ticket, or you can purchase a table for eight (8) for $1,000. Proceeds will go to help defray the cost of the event as well as help the Lee County Athletic Conference.
