Community Rallies Around
Lehigh Acres Firefighter

Will Adorno on vacation last October

The Southwest Florida community is rallying around a Lehigh Acres firefighter, who is now fighting for his strength.

According to William Adorno’s family, doctors gave 37-year-old Adorno two days to live when he was first admitted to the hospital after suffering a hemmorhagic stroke. That was more than a month ago and his relatively quick progress continues to surprise his loved ones.

Last month Adorno was on duty when the medical emergency happened. David Adorno, his brother, says he was placed in a medically-induced coma, and now as he recovers, he’s going through physical therapy.

“He actually said his first words last week. He mumbled, ‘I love you,’ to our sister, and that was pretty touching,” David Adorno said.

Saturday evening’s Florida Stingrays game was held in Will Adorno’s honor, with his firefighting gear placed on the sidelines and his two teenage daughters taking part in the coin toss. It was just one of several fundraising efforts many organizations have taken on since his hospitalization.

During the past weeks, through donations and community events, the Adorno family has raised more than $7,000. It’s support for which they are thankful.

“Seeing so many people come out…there’s no words to be said,” David Adorno said.

Donations are being accepted through the “William Adorno, Jr.” fund at Suntrust, and a PayPal account accessible at Adorno’s Facebook page.
