<\/a>A child hit for the second time in two months in Lehigh Acres is prompting big changes from the county. The most recent injury happened on 8th Street SW Thursday.<\/p>\nTamilya Raymond says she never saw him coming. She hit 12-year-old Estherson Celestian Thursday when he was riding his bicycle.<\/p>\n
“He was trying to cross the street and he saw that both cars were coming both ways,” Raymond said.<\/p>\n
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 12-year-old swerved onto the street.<\/p>\n
“He swerved back in front of my car and he hit it,” Raymond said. “I was scared I didn’t know what to do.”<\/p>\n
FHP says Celestian then went airborn and came down on the cars windshield. He was airlifted to Tampa General where he’s in serious condition and recovering from head injuries.<\/p>\n
It’s a situation that’s all too familiar to Ray Covey. His son Bryson was hit by a car in April, just four blocks down on the same street – 8th Street SW.<\/p>\n
“I knew it was going to happen. It’s just too dangerous, there’s too much traffic on this road,” Ray Covey said.<\/p>\n
The drivers in both incidents weren’t ticketed for hitting the kids. But the woman who hit Bryson was cited for driving on a learner’s permit without supervision.<\/p>\n
Just last week, the department of transportation switched out the 40 mph speed limit signs with 35 mph.<\/p>\n
