25th Street SW<\/a> knocking on her neighbor’s doors.<\/p>\n“A little girl came to my door, crying,” explained neighbor Josh Robinson. “She had no shoes on and she said her mother left her and she was crying.”<\/p>\n
Robinson says he walked over to the home to try and find the little girl’s mom.<\/p>\n
“But nobody answered, so I brought her in and called the police,” he said.<\/p>\n
Lee County deputies arrived at the Lehigh Acres neighborhood and eventually found the girl’s mother, Brittany Spikes, at work.<\/p>\n
Detectives say Spikes admitted to leaving her daughter home alone so she could go to her job at Wendy’s.<\/p>\n
Another neighbor we spoke with, Kiara Vergara, says she thinks the three-year-old knocked on her door too.<\/p>\n
“I heard a really light tapping – like she wanted somebody to answer, but she’s timid and she ran off before I could answer,” Vergara said.<\/p>\n
And she says sadly, this has happened before.<\/p>\n
“She routinely knocks on other people’s doors to see if she has a place to stay,” Vergara said.<\/p>\n
Josh, a father of two, says he is thankful he happened to be home when she came to his house.<\/p>\n
