{"id":8053,"date":"2012-05-09T09:25:45","date_gmt":"2012-05-09T14:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=8053"},"modified":"2012-05-09T10:13:15","modified_gmt":"2012-05-09T15:13:15","slug":"i-need-you-now-part-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2012\/05\/i-need-you-now-part-i\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cI NEED YOU NOW\u2026\u201d PART I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/education.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8056\" title=\"education\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/education.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a>Welcome back to the Education Affect.\u00a0 When your children were first born, the slightest whimper would summon doting parents to their bedside.\u00a0 The full lung shriek, meant immediately drop what you are doing and run to their side, \u201c<strong>I need you NOW<\/strong>\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 When they were learning to walk, loving open arms were there, whether they trip and fall forward or backward on the multi layers of diaper padding.\u00a0 You are by their side even before you hear \u201cI need you NOW\u201d.\u00a0 When children are very young, we make it our business to hear and understand every cry and respond appropriately?\u00a0 Do you know when your child needs You \u201cNow?\u201d and more importantly when they <strong>need you MOST<\/strong>?\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the next few articles, we explore the Education Affect of responding to \u201cI Need You Now\u201d.\u00a0 From preschool to High School whether the \u201cI Need you Now\u201d cry is audible, nonverbal or seemingly nonexistent do you still hear?<\/p>\n<p>Reminiscing about my early parenting days, just like many of you, I tried to be perfect.\u00a0 The first day of \u201cbig\u201d school, he was pristinely dressed in creased pants, yellow plaid shirt, clean Keds and a very neatly shaved part in his brushed hair.\u00a0 I took him to school and walked him all the way to the classroom to meet the teacher and see surroundings that would hopefully keep the attention of my little treasure.\u00a0 I spoke to the teacher once per week, unless I got the dreaded call; \u201cThis is Mrs._____, _____\u2019s teacher, can you please call me later\u201d. Those calls are always returned sooner than later to make sure it was not an \u201cI Need You Now\u201d call.\u00a0 Does this scenario sound familiar?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like many of you I<em> did<\/em>, I mean helped, with homework, attended every Under-8 soccer game, play, squeaky concert and gave standing ovations to artists whose buds might never open to full blooms.\u00a0 The audiences were packed with elementary school parents, responding to \u201cI Need You Now\u201d.\u00a0 Many of us have done our stint as Elementary PTA President, organizing spaghetti dinners and bake sales.\u00a0 I wanted to be a part my child\u2019s education, to let him to know I heard \u201cI Need You Now\u201d and I would respond quickly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What is the Education Affect here?<\/p>\n<p>When our children are young we are very in tune to their cries of \u201cI Need You Now\u201d and often respond before they finish their request.\u00a0 The result is we receive loving hugs and adoring looks that make parenting seemingly worthwhile.\u00a0 However, as it relates to the Education Affect, especially the elementary years we have to be careful to balance our support.\u00a0 In Elementary school use all the teachable moments; talk with your child, play games to help them learn their colors and words, cook with them, share a project but most of all listen and observe them.\u00a0 Teacher\u2019s dream of parents who make students get enough sleep and set boundaries at home that allow them to focus and follow multi step directions with respect, at school.\u00a0 Parents are the first teacher your child will have.\u00a0 You send us your first teacher and educators have to build on the foundation you have started.\u00a0 You do not have to have a PHD to build this foundation; it is the little thing that affects their learning the most, sharing, listening, reading and insisting on those precious uninterrupted moments.<\/p>\n<p>The Education Affect of responding to \u201cI Need You Now\u201d in elementary school is priceless in producing socially adjusted, intelligent children.\u00a0 Next time, we will examine what happens as students get older?\u00a0 As they move into adolescence, they would like us to believe they Need Us Less!\u00a0 How many times have you heard \u201cI got this\u201d?\u00a0 Have you ever thought that \u201cI got this\u201d is the adolescent version of \u201cI Need You Now\u2026but I don\u2019t know how to tell you\u201d?\u00a0 Listen and discern the \u201cI Need You Now\u201d in your child and you will Affect your child\u2019s education.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Gwynetta S.
