A ‘supermoon’ lights up the skies of Lehigh Acres, reaching its peak size at around 11:34 pm.<\/p>\n

The scientific term for a supermoon is a perigee moon. It is a period of time when the moon is closest to the Earth due to the elliptical path of the Moon’s orbit. \u00a0Full moons that appear during a perigee normally appear bigger and brighter.<\/div>\n

During this perigee supermoon tonight, the moon is approximately 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter, but many people may not be able to tell a difference.<\/div>\n
