{"id":7872,"date":"2012-05-03T08:40:05","date_gmt":"2012-05-03T13:40:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=7872"},"modified":"2012-05-03T10:29:09","modified_gmt":"2012-05-03T15:29:09","slug":"forestry-arson-alert-association-asks-citizens-to-stomp-out-arson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2012\/05\/forestry-arson-alert-association-asks-citizens-to-stomp-out-arson\/","title":{"rendered":"Forestry Arson Association<BR> Asks Citizens To Stomp Out Arson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Florida\u00a0Arson Association<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Special to the Gazette<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/arson_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-7874\" title=\"arson_2\" src=\"http:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/arson_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>As part of Arson Awareness Week May 6-12<sup>th<\/sup>, one group is asking Florida citizens to help \u201cStomp Out Arson\u201d by participating in a video contest that brings awareness to the dangers of woods arson.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida Forestry Arson Alert Association, a direct support organization of the Florida Forest Service, is hosting the contest to bring awareness to arson-caused wildfires in an effort to curb growing woods arson statistics.\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 2012 alone, more than 20 percent of Florida\u2019s wildfires were caused by woods arsonists. If woods arson continues at this rate, Florida has the potential to double its arson numbers from 2011 \u2013 experiencing over 800 arson-caused wildfires burning up to 15,000 acres.<\/p>\n<p>Contest videos must center on the theme \u201cStomp Out Arson,\u201d and highlight the negative effects of woods arson in a fun, safe, and informative way. Video submissions should be posted on the Florida Forest Service Facebook page. The video that obtains the most Facebook \u201clikes\u201d by\u00a0\u00a0 May 12<sup>th<\/sup> will be declared the winner and will receive a $50 gift card sponsored by the Florida Forestry Arson Alert Association.<\/p>\n<p>To enter the contest, participants should adhere to the following guidelines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Videos must incorporate the theme \u201cStomp Out Arson.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Keep videos at 90 seconds or less.<\/li>\n<li>Absolutely No profanity or vulgarity. Videos containing profanity or vulgarity are prohibited and will be removed immediately.<\/li>\n<li>Absolutely No live flame. Any videos depicting live flame will be disqualified and removed immediately.<\/li>\n<li>Only videos posted to the Florida Forest Service Facebook page will be considered.<\/li>\n<li>Always remember your safety comes first. Do not do anything in your video that could cause harm or injury to you or others.<\/li>\n<li>For more information on the \u201cStomp Out Arson\u201d video contest, visit the Florida Forest Service Facebook fan page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to participating in the contest, the Florida Forest Service and Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement are asking for citizen help in identifying suspected arsonists by reporting suspicious activity to the Arson Alert Hotline at 1-800-342-5869. Callers may remain anonymous and information about an arson-caused wildland fire could be worth up to a $5,000 reward. When reporting suspected woods arson activity, callers should include the following information:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Descriptions of vehicles and license plates (make, model, color, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Physical descriptions of individuals (approximate height, weight, hair color, clothing, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Be watchful for suspicious behavior and pinpoint the area to assist law enforcement in their response<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Call 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY if you see suspicious behavior<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 DO NOT approach the suspect.
