In the coming months motorists will find themselves faced with distractions, traffic congestion, construction zones and impatient drivers. These hazards can and do lead to dangerous driving, resulting in crashes that could be life altering or even fatal.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office suggests every driver brush up on their driving skills by following these safety tips:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Concentrate on driving, not on passengers, cellular phones, or other distractions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Obey speed limits.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 When entering a roadway or changing lanes, allow other drivers to maintain speed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Drive in the right lane, pass on the left.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Signal several hundred feet before turning or changing lanes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Stop at stop signs and red lights; don\u2019t run yellow lights.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Don\u2019t block intersections.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Respect pedestrian right-of ways in cross walks.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Look a few blocks ahead to detect and avoid dangerous situations before they happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Allow plenty of time to arrive at your destination by planning for the possibility of traffic tie-ups, fender-benders, bad weather, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Avoid road rage by keeping your emotions in check.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Get plenty of rest before driving. Falling asleep at the wheel is a recipe for disaster.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff Mike Scott encourages all Lee County residents and visitors to follow these rules of the road and is proud to offer safe driving assistance through \u201cCarFit \u2013 Helping Mature Drivers Find Their Perfect Fit\u201d, \u201cSeniors Driving Safely\u201d and \u201cTeen Driver Challenge\u201d.
