\"\"<\/a>Shredded pounds and happy faces abound as Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office employees completed the 8th annual\u00a0Fitness Challenge this week. The\u00a0voluntary, agency-wide, twelve-week weight loss competition is designed to make winners of the \u201cbiggest weight losers\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sheriff Office employees lost a combined total\u00a0of\u00a0well over a half-a-ton at 1,415.4 pounds.<\/p>\n

Close to\u00a0two-hundred\u00a0participants began working off the weight the first week in January.\u00a0\u00a0Challengers weigh in at the start and the finish.\u00a0 The event has individual and team components and the winners are judged on\u00a0the percentage of weight lost.\u00a0\u00a0The “biggest losers” in the various\u00a0categories get cash and prizes. \u00a0Raised through the entry fee\u00a0and donations from local business supporters.\u00a0\u00a0The New Balance Store on Trailwinds Drive, the law\u00a0firm of Lusk, Drasites, Tulisano and Smith, as well as\u00a0Brad Henry, Regional Director for Take Shape for Life, were the generous sponsors who rewarded each male and female individual winner with prizes this year. The overall male winner\u00a0dropped\u00a0an impressive 40.4 pounds, while the\u00a0female\u00a0lost 43.2 pounds.\u00a0 In the team category, the three-person team,\u00a0\u201cPhat Bodies\u201d, gave up more than\u00a0115 pounds.<\/p>\n

The challenge concept of the\u00a0weight loss contest is\u00a0modeled after the 9-1-1 Fitness Challenge. This successful program\u00a0(911fitness.com) is in\u00a0its 14th\u00a0year and is coordinated\u00a0by retired Miami Police Lieutenant and former bodybuilder Jim Sayih. The\u00a0goal of the challenge is\u00a0simple:\u00a0help promote weight loss and a healthier lifestyle to those who serve and protect the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
