https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/2012LeeMPOCMS<\/a>.<\/p>\nThe MPO\u2019s Traffic Management Operations Committee will review the responses that are received through these surveys and try to address problem locations. Where congestion can be alleviated by retiming traffic signals, restriping travel lanes, or other measures that can be conducted as part of routine operations and maintenance programs, problems may be corrected by local government agencies and Florida Department of Transportation in a matter of months.<\/p>\n
Other strategies such as intersection improvements, countywide signal timing update and the more costly ITS deployments may be addressed through the MPO priority process, and implemented with federal funds sub allocated to the MPO.<\/p>\n
In the past, these surveys have proven to be a very effective means of gathering input from those who are most familiar with Lee County\u2019s traffic problems\u2014the drivers who experience them every day. Some of the more prominent improvements implemented as a result of responses received through these surveys are the Caloosahatchee River Incident Management System, Cape Coral Parkway Signal Timing Update, extension of the northbound left turn lanes on US 41 to westbound Gladiolus Drive, and the extension of southbound dual left turn lanes on US 41 to eastbound Six Mile Cypress Parkway. The need for the recently completed Colonial Boulevard widening from Six Mile Cypress to SR 82 and Daniels Parkway widening from Chamberlin Parkway to Gateway Boulevard were repeatedly validated by the public reporting congestion on these roadways in previous surveys. Examples of congestion management projects currently funded as a result of these surveys include addition of a southbound left turn lane on Veronica Shoemaker Parkway to eastbound Colonial, and the modification of the Six Mile Cypress Parkway and US 41 intersection by adding a westbound through lane at its eastern approach.<\/p>\n
