{"id":60590,"date":"2025-03-05T16:51:57","date_gmt":"2025-03-05T21:51:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=60590"},"modified":"2025-03-05T16:52:40","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T21:52:40","slug":"did-you-know-251","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2025\/03\/did-you-know-251\/","title":{"rendered":"Did you Know?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Paul Waldmiller<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"296\" height=\"170\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/unnamed.avif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-60591\" style=\"width:522px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Did you know the Florida Legislature begins their annual session this week and a little-known bill in both the Florida House and Senate will impact on domestic violence abusers if passed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Ron DeSantis became governor, he and the Florida Legislature moved Batterers Intervention Program to be overseen by the Florida Department of Children and Families where all faith programs that utilized the Bible to help teach abusers how to end their cycle of violence, were stopped. Governor DeSantis and DCF administration informed all faith programs throughout Florida that they were no longer allowed to use the Bible, although it\u2019s use had the highest rate of ending the perpetrator\u2019s abusive behaviors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faith programs were told that they must only use \u201cgovernment speech\u201d when teaching batterers how to stop abusing, and \u201cfree speech\u201d including anything from the Bible, was not allowed. In 2024, a federal judge agreed with the state of Florida that faith groups and Christians do not have the right to free speech and use the Bible when engaging in the Batterers Intervention Program.
