<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\nDid you know the majority of child abductions across Florida are from a family member?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Family abduction is committed by one of a child\u2019s parents who are involved in contentious divorce or custody proceedings. Although there is a newer Florida Family Law in place giving joint custody to divorcing or separating parents of children, there remains many previously separated or divorced parents who were not given \u201cgrandfather-law\u201d access. This means that there are many parents here in our state who do not have equal custody. One parent still holds primary custody, while the other parent is a visitor in their own child\u2019s life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, non-family abductions are the least common, making up only 1% of cases. Also, according to David Finkelhor, director of the Crimes against Children Research at the University of New Hampshire, nationwide, parents were 90% of those who abducted their own children. Mothers and female family members were responsible for 60% of the abductions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Holidays such as Christmas often see a rise in child abductions. This is because one parent or the other makes a decision outside of a court order. That can mean one parent denying the other parent the right to be with that child, or because of court decisions often made to politically discriminate basis on gender, or looking to financially take advantage of one, or both parents through purposely not granting visitation or other important matters so that there will be more and more court hearings causing one, or both parents to cough up more money to pay their attorneys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Florida has it\u2019s own laws regarding Amber Alert for child abductions. There are serious consequences for those who violate those laws and often, those who abduct their own children, or as a relative of a child, will find the penalties very harsh, even if a parent is unfairly treated in our Family Law courts. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
