Did you know there is a Bill passed in the U.S House of Representatives that would add more Social Security benefits to Americans?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The House of Representatives passed the Social Security Benefits Fairness Act, which aims to repeal two federal policies: the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). These policies currently limit Social Security benefits for approximately 3 million people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bill would repeal WEP and also GPO, which have thus far, reduced Social Security benefits for local, state and federal employees, or their surviving spouses who receive government pensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Congressional Budget Office, estimates the current bill from the House would add $195 billion to federal deficits over 10 years. This would increase fiscal strain on the Social Security Trust funds, which are already projected to be unable to pay out full benefits beginning in 2035. The bill however gained bipartisan support in the House, passing with a vote of 327-75.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current bill will be sent to the U.S Senate where the Senate has a very busy schedule in the remaining weeks of the year tackling government funding, disaster relief, and an annual must-pass defense bill likely to consuming a majority of their time. Even if the bill passes the Senate, its fate in the lame-duck session or the new Congress beginning January 3, 2025, is uncertain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
