This afternoon, Justin D\u2019Angelo Copland, of Lehigh Acres, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to life in prison for Second Degree Murder with a Firearm.<\/p>\n\n\n

The defendant was convicted in December, following a jury trial in Lee County. Assistant State Attorney Brenda Wade, of the State Attorney\u2019s Office Homicide Unit, and Assistant State Attorney Leena Marcos prosecuted the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crime happened on May 19, 2022. Copland shot a woman at a home in Lehigh Acres, four times in the head, killing her. The Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded to the scene and found the victim on the floor inside the home. Two adults and two juveniles, in the house at the time of the shooting, were unharmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investigation revealed that the victim was meeting with the subject known only as \u201cJustin\u201d outside in front of her home. While the victim was outside, the defendant fired multiple shots and then drove away from the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several hours later, after discarding the firearm, showering, and changing his clothes, Copland showed up to a Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office substation and advised that he just shot someone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
