 A 97-year-old Lehigh Acres woman was attacked in her driveway by two pit bulls on Monday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n

Irene Day was getting cat food out of a cabinet in her carport when two large pit bulls started growling and barking at her. They started biting her legs while she kicked them away. At one point she started to get dragged to the ground. She grabbed a chair to hold herself up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI kicked the other dog again and I \u2014 from there I don\u2019t know\u2026the next thing I knew I was in the house and blood all across the kitchen floor,\u201d said Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After getting inside she called her daughter-in-law who lives just a few houses down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd then I get a call from my mother-in-law who lives three houses over and she said Diane I\u2019ve been bit by a dog,\u201d recounts Diane Elswick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day was rushed to the hospital. Authorities found that the dogs were not vaccinated for rabies, so Day is undergoing extensive treatment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elswick posted about the encounter on Facebook and in the comments others stated they were attacked by these dogs. However, no one reported the previous attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because this was the first reported attack, the owner was given the option to keep their dogs quarantined in their home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The family encourages others to report any dog attacks to ensure there are records for future attacks like this one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
