Perez was indicted for First Degree Felony Murder and Armed Burglary.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Christopher-Eddie-Perez.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56898\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Christopher-Eddie-Perez.jpg 480w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Christopher-Eddie-Perez-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Christopher Eddie Perez <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The State Attorney\u2019s Office Cold Case Homicide Unit and the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office, led by Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno, have worked extensively on this case which resulted in an arrest and today\u2019s indictment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crime happened on the night of March 15, 2015. Perez broke into a Lehigh Acres home, along with other perpetrators, who were masked and brandishing firearms. The couple who lived there were held at gunpoint as the perpetrators demanded money and gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The victims were then separated into different rooms, bound with zip ties, and beaten with both fists and guns. Mr. Bhagwandin had a heart attack during the brutal beating and died of cardiac arrest and blunt force trauma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the victim died during the commission of a burglary, Perez faced the murder charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI hope today\u2019s indictment is the first step towards justice for the victim and his family. The State Attorney\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Office Cold Case Homicide Unit and the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office continue to actively investigate this case,\u201d said State Attorney Fox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The State Attorney\u2019s Office Cold Case Homicide Unit, formed by State Attorney Fox when she took office in January 2019, is comprised of experienced homicide prosecutors and investigators.
