Did you know that there is a religious significance to the Christmas candy cane?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tradition tells us that sometime during the 1600\u2019s, a choirmaster of the Cologne Cathedral in Germany handed out sugar flavored sticks to children in his church choir so to keep them quiet during the long Living Creche Ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here in America and sometime in the early 1900\u2019s, a candymaker developed a candy that was meant to be a reminder of Jesus Christ as to His birth, purpose and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This same candy maker began with a simple white stick of candy that represents purity, the virgin birth of Christ and the Solid Rock, which is the foundation of the church as well as, firmness of the promises of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The candymaker decided to change the shape of the candy stick to a shepherd\u2019s staff, so to represent Jesus as the Good Shepherd and the shape also represents the letter \u201cJ\u201d, for Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, three red stripes were added to the candy cane to represent the whipping of Jesus by the Roman soldiers as was ordered by Pontius Pilate. The one-large stripe represents the blood Jesus shed on the cross for the remission of our sins. There are some candymakers who decided to add a green colored stripe. Some say that green color is a reminder that Jesus is an everlasting gift from God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, the flavor of the original candy cane is peppermint, which is similar to hyssop. Hyssop is from the mint family and was used in the Old Testament for purification and sacrifice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
