Demings chairs the Congressional subcommittee with direct oversight of FEMA \u2013 the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Chair of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, Rep. Demings leads efforts to oversee FEMA\u2019s work in partnership with House Homeland Security Committee Chair Bennie Thompson (MS-02).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Said Rep. Demings<\/strong>, \u201cThe health and safety of the American people is my number one priority. It is critical that we hear directly from Florida communities and first responders on the ground so that we can evaluate Fort Myers\u2019 needs and FEMA\u2019s response. Families in Florida deserve the best that we can deliver, and I will be expecting to see an extremely high level of professionalism, attention, urgency, and effective action from FEMA and other partners on the ground. I am committed to make sure that Florida has everything we need to rebuild.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rep. Demings called for a Major Disaster Declaration<\/a> for Florida to unlock additional federal aid, for 100% cost-sharing<\/a> by FEMA to cover disaster expenses for Florida communities, and for FEMA Individual Assistance <\/a>to be made available to Floridians in all 67 Florida counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rep. Demings also called for<\/a> a special session of the Florida Legislature in response to Hurricane Ian and the growing crisis in the state\u2019s property insurance market. She also cosponsored the FAITH Act<\/a>, legislation to shore up the broken property insurance market from the federal level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rep. Demings voted<\/a> for a continuing resolution including $21 billion for disaster recovery: $18.8 billion for the Disaster Relief Fund<\/a>, and $2 billion for Community Development Block Grants \u2013 Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rep. Demings strongly supported the bipartisan infrastructure bill<\/a>, including $50 billion for storm resilience and weatherization, including flood mitigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rep. Demings cosponsored bipartisan legislation<\/a> to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and ensure the stability and affordability of our nation\u2019s flood insurance program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
