{"id":55428,"date":"2022-10-04T18:12:50","date_gmt":"2022-10-04T22:12:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=55428"},"modified":"2022-10-04T18:12:58","modified_gmt":"2022-10-04T22:12:58","slug":"southwest-florida-hospitals-ask-for-donations-of-blood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2022\/10\/southwest-florida-hospitals-ask-for-donations-of-blood\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Southwest Florida hospitals ask for donations of blood<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/blood.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55429\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hospitals in Southwest Florida need blood donors to step forward because of a critically low supply that is expected to worsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/nchmd.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;NCH Healthcare System in Collier County<\/a>&nbsp;has issued an urgent plea for donors, and its blood center is in dire need of platelets, a blood component that form clots and prevents bleeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hospital system has experienced a surge in hospitalizations since Hurricane Ian hit Sept. 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>To donate, visit NCH\u2019s blood center at 1100 Immokalee Road&nbsp;in North Naples.<\/li><li>Those donating whole blood can walk in without an appointment.<\/li><li>Those donating platelets need to make an appointment by calling&nbsp;239-624-4130.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>For additional information, call the blood drive hotline at 239-624-6505.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leehealth.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lee Health<\/a>, the public hospital system in Lee County, has enough blood supplies on hand but that could change as Ian clean up continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Blood donor centers at Cape Coral Hospital and at the Bonita Community Health Center will both open&nbsp;Wednesday<\/li><li>Normal operating hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe encourage anyone who is able to make a potentially life-saving donation,\u201d Lee Health spokeswoman Meaghan Smith said. \u201cWe anticipate opening the other locations and launching our mobile blood centers soon.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hospitals in Southwest Florida need blood donors to step forward because of a critically low supply that is expected to worsen.
