{"id":55373,"date":"2022-10-02T18:50:41","date_gmt":"2022-10-02T22:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=55373"},"modified":"2022-10-02T18:50:50","modified_gmt":"2022-10-02T22:50:50","slug":"governor-presses-lee-county-electric-cooperative-to-expedite-restoration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2022\/10\/governor-presses-lee-county-electric-cooperative-to-expedite-restoration\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor presses Lee County Electric Cooperative to expedite restoration"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"278\" height=\"181\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/lcec.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7324\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>More than 200,000 customers of Lee County Electric Cooperative remain without power after Hurricane Ian&#8217;s landfall on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Saturday urged LCEC to accept additional mutual aid to expedite power restoration to the residents of Cape Coral, North Fort Myers, Sanibel and Pine Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of 5 a.m. Sunday morning, Florida Power and Light (FPL) has restored power to more than 52% of their accounts in Lee County alone, while LCEC has only restored power to 14.5% of their total accounts (figures accessed via&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fplmaps.com\/\">FPL outage map<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcec.net\/reliability\/storm-center\">LCEC Storm Center<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the governor&#8217;s office, the Florida Electrical Cooperatives Association has readied resources from its members around the state that are available to deploy on mutual aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Mutual aid would allow the LCEC to expedite power restoration, especially to Cape Coral and North Fort Myers as residents return to their homes and begin the road to recovery,&#8221; the DeSantis office said in a statement. &#8220;Power restoration in these areas is also essential to resume the full use of essential services such as health care facilities, operation of schools and ensure access to running water.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There has been no official response from LCEC to the governor&#8217;s comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Company representatives have said there are approximately 1,000 crews working to restore service to customers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 200,000 customers of Lee County Electric Cooperative remain without power after Hurricane Ian&#8217;s landfall on Wednesday.
