\u201cIt\u2019s not just a crisis for Florida,\u201d said Biden Friday from the White House. \u201cThis is an American crisis. We\u2019re all in this together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI just want the people of Florida to know we see what you\u2019re going through, and we\u2019re with you. We\u2019re going to do everything we can for you,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The White House did not disclose any details on the Bidens’ trip to Florida, namely where they may plan to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bidens’ visit as scheduled would come a week after the monster-sized Hurricane Ian pummeled the state with crushing storm surge, obliterating wind speeds and torrential rainfall, leaving a swath of devastation from the southwestern coast across the I-4 corridor, from the Gulf to the Atlantic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hurricane, the fifth-most powerful to ever hit the U.S., left countless homes and businesses wrecked or underwater and nearly 2.7 million people without power. About 1.2 million people remained without power as of Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The massive storm made landfall last Wednesday near Cayo Costa just west of Fort Myers, and triggered dramatic search-and-rescue efforts \u2014 some by helicopters and airboats \u2014 in several hard-hit areas of the state, mostly southwest Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ian’s death toll in Florida rose to 44 on Saturday, according to authorities, as crews continued search and rescue and others assessed the extent of the damage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Biden said Friday that Hurricane Ian is \u201clikely to rank among the worst in the nation\u2019s history\u201d and Florida will take \u201cmonths \u2013 years \u2013 to rebuild.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
