{"id":53943,"date":"2022-07-08T23:29:00","date_gmt":"2022-07-09T03:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/?p=53943"},"modified":"2022-07-08T23:29:05","modified_gmt":"2022-07-09T03:29:05","slug":"president-biden-signs-executive-order-on-abortion-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/2022\/07\/president-biden-signs-executive-order-on-abortion-access\/","title":{"rendered":"President Biden signs executive order on abortion access"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Two weeks after a landmark Supreme Court ruling reversed abortion rights nationwide, President Joe Biden signed an executive order in hopes of curtailing state bans or restrictions, the White House said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" src=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/President-Joe-Biden.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49061\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/President-Joe-Biden.jpg 976w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/President-Joe-Biden-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelehighacresgazette.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/President-Joe-Biden-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 976px) 100vw, 976px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Biden administration said the president will direct the Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra to protect access to abortion medication and contraception and ensure emergency medical care for pregnant women suffering from pregnancy loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also asks agencies to develop strategies to protect abortion patients\u2019 privacy. That step would be in an effort to protect abortion patients from potential prosecution in states where abortions are illegal or restricted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of Biden\u2019s order is to direct Attorney General Merrick Garland to lead a task force that would \u201cprovide technical assistance to states affording legal protection to out-of-state patients as well as providers who offer legal reproductive health care,\u201d the White House said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While leaders of Republican states might challenge these edicts in court, the executive order might not go far enough for some. There have been calls by abortion-rights advocates to use federal land for abortion clinics.
